The great-granddaughter of Salvatore Maranzano, Cassandra rejected any efforts of her family to bring her into the family business and instead and focused on getting into law enforcement. She attended Quantico and graduated somewhere near the top third of her class, joining the FBI as a field agent sometime after graduation. While a member of the FBI, she gained a reputation for her penchant to focus on bringing down mafioso and anyone in the same business of them, something that earned her the ire of various members of the Italian mafia. One of them set up an ambush for her, knocking her out, and when she woke up, she found herself in a new, strange location with a bunch of people she'd never seen before, and resolved to find out how this had happened to her.
