Uncontested Rolls
Rolls that are asked for which have a set Target Number, rather than someone that is being rolled against, such as in combat, are known as Uncontested Rolls. These may happen for a variety of reasons such as the character is going up against something inanimate such as breaking down a door or the character is trying to crack a code on a computer. Maybe the character is trying to recall something from his/her memory or is working on a cure for some disease. There are all sorts of reasons why a character may need to make an uncontested roll.
Procedure:
A GM will ask the character to roll his/her Statistic and apply a Talent as may be applicable. The GM will have in mind what the Success color or number is for which the player may succeed. If the player rolls that color/set number or higher, the character is successful at the task at hand.
